Introduction

Our client is a 100% New Zealand owned and operated, IANZ accredited asbestos laboratory. Over a long period of time they have developed a sound reputation for the quality and prompt delivery of services. It is a company that prides itself on being client focused and provides a wide spectrum of services including Asbestos Surveys, Sampling & Testing, Training, etc., across a well-established national network of commercial, residential and industrial clients.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proven Lab Manager with Quality Management experience to join their Wellington-based laboratory testing services.

Requirements

You will play a pivotal role in driving a culture of quality and excellence through enhanced operational excellence and friendly and efficient customer service. This is a busy, fast paced role where no two days would be the same. Utilizing your sound technical knowledge, you will continually focus on developing and implementing Continuous Process Improvement Initiatives.

Key responsibilities of this role will include but are not limited to;

  • Providing Visionary Leadership and driving financial performance.
  • Managing the development and implementation of quality standards along with maintaining IANZ accreditation.
  • Liaising with the Laboratory Supervisor, Division Managers and staff to organize the day-to-day allocation of work, to set priorities and deadlines.
  • Liaison with contractors for seamless delivery of laboratory and related services, whilst, managing the provision of related consultancy to external agencies.
  • Developing and maintaining excellent client relationships.
  • Strategically growing the laboratory’s capabilities through motivation, training and development of the team.
  • Maintaining required safety and security standards, ensuring timely calibration and maintenance of all lab equipment, general laboratory housekeeping, etc.
  • Demonstrating leadership and commitment to the Health & Safety policies and wellbeing of employees.
  • Contribute to planning and budgeting, accurate and timely data entry and reporting.

 

The successful candidate will ideally possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Relevant Tertiary qualification in Chemistry or similar.
  • Minimum 4-5 years lab management experience in a modern commercial testing laboratory. Experience with Asbestos/Mining/Geology labs is highly desirable.
  • Good knowledge of and experience with the use of microscopes.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confident user of computers and software – spreadsheets, word processing, instrument software, etc.

With direct line management responsibility for Team Leaders, Analysts and Technicians, you will strive to foster a strong culture of ethics and team spirit.
