Introduction

Our client is a 100% NZ owned food manufacturer with an Australasian presence, where they supply premium products to the supermarket chains and speciality food stores. Using locally sourced ingredients they want to produce good innovative food and promote overall wellbeing. They lay high importance on building and maintaining a great company culture.

Due to exponential growth and expansion, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a bright, energetic and self-motivated Mechanical Engineer to support the smooth running of manufacturing operations. This is a very ‘hands on’ role where each day you will provide engineering services to plant.  It is envisaged you would have previous experience in a similar environment, such as FMCG or the pharmaceutical sector.  There are plans ahead to modernize and install new production lines in the plant, so you will have experience in plant upgrades and commissioning.

Requirements

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Actively support production and site activities by optimising machinery performance and reliability.
  • Manufacture of parts or items to assist production team requirements.
  • Through the use of preventative maintenance processes optimise the running of plant, machinery and services to meet H&S, GMP & productivity performance.
  • Routine maintenance and asset inspections, boiler water and Waste water system treatment testing and adjustments.
  • Use engineering knowledge to analyse equipment failure, facilitate cross functional groups in decision making and improvements.

To be considered for this role you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Trade qualification in mechanical/electrical engineering, with appropriate licence / NZ registration if electrically qualified.
  • Production/Manufacturing environment experience of at least 5 years (fast paced food manufacturing and/or FMCG environment would be preferred).
  • Diagnostic and fault finding expertise, where you are experienced in Root Cause Analysis.
  • Previous experience with engineering projects and process improvement.
  • Experience with PLCs and welding experience with stainless steel. Experience in Working At Heights and Boilers would be an advantage
  • Ongoing commitment to Continuous Process Improvement.
  • Sound knowledge of GMP with a drive to follow and implement Health & Safety protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral and proficiency in the use of Microsoft applications (Excel, Word)
  • Physically fit and self- motivated with a passion for ‘hands- on’ mechanical work.
  • Current Full NZ Drivers Licence

The manufacturing is done over two shifts; morning and afternoon, hence, flexibility around working hours and one day over weekend is important.

In return this company will offer a competitive level of remuneration and a stable work environment with many overtime opportunities. They seek applications from lateral thinkers who will make value added suggestions to continued process improvement within the manufacturing unit.
