Our client is one of New Zealand’s most dynamic commercial testing laboratories. They provide a comprehensive range of services to clients using latest cutting edge technology. Their team of scientists and technicians are highly skilled and passionate to provide customised solutions to their extensive client base.

As a part of Senior Leadership Team and reporting to the General Manager, Lab Operations ANZ, the Regional Lab Operations Manager will be responsible for managing the operations of two laboratories at different sites within North Island. You will play a pivotal role in driving a culture of quality and excellence through enhanced operational excellence and friendly and efficient customer service. This is a busy, fast paced role where no two days would be the same. Utilizing your sound technical knowledge, you will continually focus on developing and implementing Continuous Process Improvement Initiatives.


Key responsibilities of this role will include but are not limited to;

  • Providing Visionary Leadership and driving financial performance.
  • Strategically growing the laboratory’s capabilities through motivation, training and development of the team.
  • Managing the development and implementation of quality standards along with maintaining IANZ accreditation.
  • Developing and maintaining excellent client relationships.
  • Developing new business initiatives and growing existing business activities, through operational change and productivity improvements.
  • Maintaining required safety and security standards, ensuring timely calibration and maintenance of all lab equipment, general laboratory housekeeping, etc.
  • Demonstrating leadership and commitment to the Health & Safety policies and wellbeing of employees.
  • Contribute to planning and budgeting, accurate and timely reporting.
  • Ensuring financial targets and business development objectives are met through effective management of resources.

The successful candidate will ideally possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Relevant Tertiary qualification in Medical Laboratory Science/Biological Sciences or similar.
  • Proven operational experience in a modern commercial diagnostic/analytical testing laboratory.
  • At least 5 years in a GLP, ISO17025 setting.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confident user of computers and software – spreadsheets, word processing, LIMS software, instrument software, etc.

With direct line management responsibility for Team Supervisors and Specialists and indirect leadership for a larger group of Laboratory Technicians you will strive to foster a strong culture of ethics and team spirit.
